JW.ORG FAQ – Are Jehovah’s Witnesses Trying to Earn Their Salvation By Their Door To Door Ministry?

The following topic is yet another example of clever semantics in how the Jehovah’s Witnesses answer questions.

This is another fun one because the answer given is both an outright lie as well as a clever withholding of information. I will prove both below.  They CLAIM that Jehovah’s Witnesses are not earning their salvation by going door to door.  But is this true?  Let’s take a look at some quotes of theirs taken directly from their published materials.  Instead of a window dressing PR answer on their website…..this should tell us how they REALLY feel.

“Consider, too, the fact that Jehovah’s organization alone, in all the earth, is directed by God’s holy spirit or active force. (Zech. 4:6) Only this organization functions for Jehovah’s purpose and to his praise. To it alone God’s Sacred Word, the Bible, is not a sealed book.” Watchtower 1973 Jul 1 p.402

Similarly, Jehovah is using only one organization today to accomplish his will.  To receive everlasting life in the earthly Paradise we must identify that organization and serve God as part of it.” Watchtower 1983 Feb 15 p.12

“During the final period of the ancient world that perished in the Flood, Noah was a faithful preacher of righteousness. (2 Peter 2:5) In these last days of the present system of things, Jehovahs people are making known Gods righteous standards and are declaring good news about the possibility of surviving into the new world. (2 Peter 3:9-13) Just as Noah and his God-fearing family were preserved in the ark, survival of individuals today depends on their faith and their loyal association with the earthly part of Jehovahs universal organization.” Watchtower 2006 May 15 p.22

Do you see how it is that they skirted the issue?  The question was “are JWs trying to earn their salvation by doing door to door?”.  And they answered this question with a “no”.  You see, as a Jehovah’s Witness, you are required to be active in ALL facets of their worship.  How does one “serve God as part of it”? (their organization).  How does one practice “loyal association with Jehovahs universal organization?”  By doing what leadership tells them they must do.  This includes loyally abiding by all dictates, doctrines and decisions as handed down by leadership.  It includes being engaged in their ministry on a “regular” basis (at least monthly).  It includes personal study of publications written and published by them.  And it includes faithful and regular attendance of all of their worship services multiple times each week.  So…..are they earning their salvation SOLELY through the door to door work?  No.  They are only PARTIALLY earning their salvation through such work.  They must be doing all of the things I mentioned above INCLUDING the preaching work in order to be saved.  Tricky little technicality, no?  This was the “clever withholding of information” part of their deception.

Make no mistake.  Jehovah’s Witness leadership LOVES to speak out of both sides of their mouths…..especially on this issue.  Here on their website, they give a meaningful example of the basis for the biblical concept of forgiveness and grace.  The example includes a FREE GIFT.  Since it is a free gift, it cannot, by definition be earned, right?  So their answer on the website sounds good.  But again, compare their answer to the quotes you see above.  Compare that answer to what they REALLY teach.  They love to quote James 2:17 which says, “Thus too, faith, if it does not have works, is dead in itself”.  But then THEY determine what actions qualify as “works” (namely preaching, obedience and attending their services as mentioned above).  And if you aren’t actively applying the “works” they say you should be applying then what is going to happen to you?  You won’t receive everlasting life.  Isn’t it amazing that this free gift by god is ultimately held hostage by them?  Isn’t it amazing that they fail to understand that applying a christ-like personality based on love will move a person to do good deeds (in other words…..”works”)…….. yet exactly what those good deeds should be aren’t even directly specified in the bible?  Here is what I found in their bible:

“For God loved the world so much that he gave his only-begotten Son, in order that everyone exercising faith in him might not be destroyed but have everlasting life … He that exercises faith in the Son has everlasting life.” John 3:16, 36

“And yet YOU do not want to come to me that YOU may have life.” John 5:40

“Hence let no one be boasting in men; for all things belong to YOU, whether Paul or Apol’los or Ce’phas or the world or life or death or things now here or things to come, all things belong to YOU; in turn YOU belong to Christ; Christ, in turn, belongs to God.” 1 Corinthians 3:21

I see nothing that says that you must be part of their organization to be saved.  I see nothing that speaks of earning salvation by attending church or preaching or mindlessly obeying.  Yet they have presumptuously applied the words of Jesus to themselves and the organization they preside over.

I will close out this argument with one final screen shot.  It is taken directly from their website and is from their June 2012 version of “Our Kingdom Ministry” p1.  This is the “outright lie” part of their deception.

Notice the title of the artice.  It was called “Twelve Reasons for Preaching”.  Now…..notice number 7 in the upper right hand corner.  What does it say?  “It is a requirement for our own salvation”.  Well.  It doesn’t get much more plain than that.  To them…….preaching IS A REQUIREMENT FOR THEIR OWN SALVATION.  It says so in their own publication!  Yet…..how did they answer the initial FAQ above?  They said, “No. We engage regularly in our door-to-door ministry, but we don’t believe that we earn our salvation by doing such work.”

Hmmmmmm.  Did their god direct them to lie on their website?

What a tangled we we weave when first we practice to deceive.
